Your Story is Waukee’s Story

We preserve the history of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

And That Story Is Worth Preserving

The Waukee Area Historical Society is a community nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the rich history and heritage of Waukee, Iowa.

From its roots as a tiny town focused on agriculture, mining, and railroads to its rapid growth as one of Iowa’s fastest-growing cities, we are working to connect Waukee’s past with our life today and into the future.

But we’re more than just our collection of artifacts. We work to educate Waukee residents, both young and old. We gather our community to make memories and new history together. So whether you’re a lifelong resident or new to town, the Waukee Area Historical Society can help you discover the history that ties us all together.

Exploring the Past

Waukee’s history is all around us—you just have to explore.

The Waukee Area Historical Society helps you explore our rich history through educational programs, artifact exhibitions, and preservation efforts. Whether you’re hearing a presentation of Waukee’s history or you’re exploring our artifacts collection, we make it easy to connect with the past:

Educational Outreach

We visit schools, libraries, and community centers to share Waukee’s history through engaging talks, presentations, and interactive experiences.

Artifact Exhibitions

Through generous donations or sharing by community members, we are able to display special historical items online and traveling exhibits. This gives you a firsthand look at pieces of Waukee’s past.
Every artifact, exhibit, and story we share helps keep Waukee’s heritage alive. Join us in exploring the past—because understanding where we’ve been helps us see where we’re going.

Living the Present

History isn’t just something we look back on—it’s something we create every day.

Waukee is built on traditions, gatherings, and shared experiences. The Waukee Area Historical Society helps you keep that heritage alive by hosting and supporting community events that bring people together.

These moments become part of our town’s ongoing story, bridging generations and strengthening our small-town connections:

Signature events

Including Walktoberfest, trivia nights, and special historical events, we create opportunities for residents to gather, celebrate, and make new memories.

Community Partnerships

We collaborate with local organizations to support events that enrich Waukee’s culture and bring people together.
Every event is a chance to celebrate what makes Waukee special—past, present, and future. Join us in living the history that tomorrow’s residents will look back on.

Preserving the Future

Today is tomorrow’s history—it shapes the stories future generations will tell.

The Waukee Area Historical Society is committed to preserving the past while capturing the present—ensuring that Waukee’s history remains accessible for years to come. Through dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and advancing technology, we are building a lasting legacy:
